Description
Sophie the Giraffe went into production on Thursday May the 25th, 1961, on Saint Sophie’s Day. That makes her nearly 60 years old. Her creator, Monsieur Rampeu was an expert in transforming the latex from the HEVEA tree using the rotational moulding of rubber as a toy-making concept. He came up with the idea of designing a giraffe – such an exotic wildlife figure was a first of her kind on the market. Amazingly Sophie the Giraffe looks still exactly the same as she did all those years ago.
To this day, Sophie the Giraffe is still “traditionally” produced – the process involves more than 14 manual operations! She is made from 100% natural rubber derived from the latex of the Hevea tree. Due to her shape and size, Sophie the Giraffe is ideal for a baby’s small hand to grasp.
